Mariann Hirakawa is the teacher for the 3 and 4 year
old classes at Triangle Cooperative Nursery School. She has been
teaching at Triangle since 1997. Mariann’s outstanding contributions to
our school and the cooperative school community at large have been
recognized with the following awards:
Mariann is a certified elementary school teacher with a specialization in early childhood education. She received her B.S. in Human Development and Family Ecology/Child Development at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Her M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education was earned at Tufts University. Previous experience includes teaching at Stone School Cooperative Nursery in Ann Arbor, MI, where she taught 3 year olds in the morning as well as a mixed age group of 3 and 4 year olds in the afternoon. Mariann was both director and teacher at Playtime Nursery School, a cooperative preschool in Urbana, IL. She has additionally served as a director, head teacher, and elementary teacher in San Diego, Boston, and Chicago. Mariann has two sons, Joshua and Matthew. They both attended preschool at Triangle and currently attend school in the Ann Arbor School District. Mariann’s husband, Daniel Goldman, is a professor/scientist at the University of Michigan. Mariann believes in providing the children with a caring, stimulating environment that facilitates growth in all areas of development (physical, social-emotional, and intellectual). Her favorite years in a child’s development are ages 2.5-5 when the teacher, parents, and children can share together their love of discovery, learning, and enjoying each other.
